AFL Vic Metro Junior Championships: Games 2 & 3

High Performance Nutrition and Recovery

The league is fortunate to have an ex AFL AIS High performance manager on our coaching team.

Ray Breed coaches our Under 15 Div 1 Boys and is well credentialed to dispense nutrition and recovery advice. We thank Ray for this guidance.

Please follow the Nutrition and  recovery plan downloadable below to ensure high performance over the weekend.

We know you will all give your best over the weekend.

Don’t get over excited, Don’t get nervous – Get Ready.

Download the Nutrition and Recovery document and stick it on the fridge to help you get through this weekend.

After the conclusion of Game 3 in Noble Park or Bulleen, we would like to request that everyone returns to the Social Club rooms at D.W. Lucas Oval (East Malvern Knights’ home ground) to celebrate the carnival and see our award winners recognised. There will be food for the girls and parents, and the bar will be open (drinks at club prices) for a relaxing drink to celebrate the end of a busy weekend.

Presentations will depend on the time families take to get back to our area, we understand that traffic may be heavy due to it being the end of the long weekend. We plan to do staggered presentations as each group will be coming from different grounds. Hopefully the following is a guide:

Under 15 Boys: 4.15pm (will be at ground)

Under 15 Girls: 4.30pm (coming from Noble Park & Bulleen)

Under 14 Boys: 4.45pm (coming from Eltham)

Now you have collected your bag, shorts, training top, hoodie and socks please try swapping between yourselves if you need different sizes. We order a range of sizes based on previous experience, but don’t have the time or amount of stock to be dealing with each individual after training who needs bigger or smaller!

Please ensure you have paid the carnival cost before tonight’s training CLICK HERE to go to payments page.

Under 15 Girl’s TEAM SELECTION

South Metro Stars Div 1 and Development Team Squads named for

AFL Victoria Metropolitan Junior Championships

We would like to thank all of the girls who have participated in our 2017 SMJFL Interleague program. This year we had 66 participants in the program, a significant increase on the participation in our 2016 program.

The coaches have enjoyed the 8 weeks training with the full squad, and were enormously impressed by the development of each player. We saw the girls being exposed to a high level of technical training, and saw them take it all in. It is important to note that whilst the final 1st May practice games were a contributor to our decision, they were only one element of many observations (skill, teamwork, game impact, selflessness, coachabilty & leadership) that we made over the time of the entire program.

Whilst we are naturally happy for those in the final 50 girls (24 Div 1 Team, 24 Development Team + 2 emergencies) selected, our minds turn to the 16 girls who have not been named in the final group. Should there be more than 2 long term injuries between now and 19th May (AFL Victoria team submission) you may still receive a phone call from us to return to the squad. We are currently tightening our relationship with the St Kilda Next Generation Academy and Melbourne Football Club AFLW, and expect more opportunities for next level coaching open up for you there. Girls born in 2003 and 2004 should work hard at their club footy throughout the remainder of the season, in order to be in front when their club is asked for Interleague squad nominations for 2018. Girls born in 2002, you should also work hard in 2017 to make a case for participating in the Sandringham Dragons squad in 2018.

We know all of you have worked incredibly hard. Our selection of the final squad ensured many debates. In the end, this is the squad we have chosen.

We would particularly like you to watch your squad mates play in the Vic Metro Championships. Especially the home game on 10th June. Venue TBC. If you see us around the grounds watching games please come up to us for a chat.

Most importantly, we hope you have made new friends from other clubs, and once the initial disappointment abates, will reflect with a smile on the overall experience.

Some dates for the family sporting Calendar:

Interleague Player Information GIRLS Presentation

Photo Request

In order for our coaches to identify the players more quickly we intend taking head and shoulder “mug-shots” of each player. To simplify identification it would be appreciated if you could download, edit and print the following document on an A4 sheet of paper. This should be brought to the first training session you attend, we’ll take the photo of player holding the sheet of paper to identify them. If you have printer or computer issues, please CLEARLY and in large print write the information (given name, surname, club, jumper number, age group, height) on a clean sheet of paper and bring that.

If you have any problems with your daughter’s photo being taken please discuss with us on the night.

2017 Interleague Eligibility:

Please note that any player who changes clubs before the season will not be eligible to be part of the Interleague squad. This is a new initiative designed to stop good players leaving the club that has supported them in order to find “better” football. We truly believe such players can learn leadership and help their club team improve by remaining at that club, whilst being able to participate in the Interleague program to satisfy their thirst for higher skilled football training and games.
