Club Volunteer Umpires

Footy’s back! – 2017 Footy is here

Welcome to 2017 and the SMJFL Modified Rules Competition.

Thank you for volunteering your time as a Club Umpire – your role is an important one, and we have many resources to help you do your job. Scroll to the bottom of this page for handbooks and rules to download.

It is the responsibility of the HOME team’s umpire to submit the online version of the Competition Match Report (CMR). As soon as possible after you finish umpiring your match please click the link below and fill out the online CMR form. Your club will be fined if you do not submit this form by 9pm on match day.

Could all umpires, please input data CAREFULLY, as wrong clubs, dates, round numbers cost us many hours of extra work sorting out. Check the data on each page before submitting it. This season these is a drop down list of umpire names to select from. If your name, or the other umpires name is not listed simply select “NOT LISTED”. The SMJFL will be in contact with the club to find out why the umpire’s name is not registered.

NO Best & Fairest votes are required for modified rules matches.

If you experienced any problems during your game with other officials or clubs please call Amanda Beet on 0421 170 756 on match day.

CLUB  UMPIRE  Competition  Match  Report  (CMR) – must be submitted by  9PM MATCH DAY.

Note: This Club Umpire CMR is for umpires of modified rules games only. Stand-in Club umpires for U11 and older competitions (who were required to officiate where an Official SMJFL Umpire was not appointed).

Registration – Club Umpire Accreditation

Welcome to 2017 everyone.

Club umpires are responsible for officiating the younger (Under 8, Under 9, Under 10 and Under 12 Girls) matches within the SMJFL. This role being performed by an accredited adult whom the players know, makes it easier for them to play the game and learn the rules in a low stress environment. Club umpires also know how to apply the modified rules which these age groups play to.

Umpire Accreditation/Registration

Thank you for your interest in helping your team/club as a Club Volunteer Umpire for this season.

Our first information session for this season was run on the 29th March and well attended, thank you to all those who turned up. If you did attend this session we will shortly email you a copy of the presentation on the night.

The next session will be Wednesday 26th April. Please register for this session  by clicking HERE.

ALL umpires must be registered via the form above or you will not be able to officiate in 2017. If you cannot make the information session on the 26th April, tick the box to say you can’t attend, and we will be in contact with you to arrange an alternative session.

We may schedule one more session if we have enough interest. Volunteer umpires enroling now need to complete the following online course, then send your Certificate of Completion to the SMJFL Team Leader: Football Operations & Umpiring, Amanda Beet at or text a copy of it to 0421 170 756 (make sure your name is on it).

If you have completed the online course in the last couple of seasons there is no need to do it again. However, ALL umpires must attend an information session to be accredited this season, regardless of whether this is your 1st or 4th year!

You also need to send me a SIGNED copy of the 2017 Club Umpire Code of Conduct which you should read carefully before signing. This document is vital to your understanding of the role you are about to take on within your team.

Further resources are available via the links at the bottom of this page, most notably the link to the page with video examples and a copy of the presentation given at our earlier information sessions.

Uniform is the Bright Green or Yellow shirt provided by your CLUB. Please check with your club (not the league) if you haven’t got one yet. If your club doesn’t have one yet please try to wear something similar coloured such as a hi-vis workman’s vest.
