The SMJFL Presentation Evening is the night of nights for our football league, allowing a coming together of this year’s award winners and esteemed guests.

In a season with over 11,300 registered boys and girls and over 2,620 matches, there have been many fantastic highlights, and last night proved the perfect stage to celebrate.

Photos: Photos from the evening were taken by Everard Fenton.

We would like to congratulate all nominees on their efforts throughout the year and formally recognise the winners below:

Club Volunteer Umpire Award: Wayne Pickering – Murrumbeena.

Wayne has umpired U12 Girls football for the past three seasons whilst also championing women’s football at the club. The empathy and care Wayne has shown to colleagues and players has not gone unnoticed.

Sportsman’s Award: Lachlan Rayner – Caulfield Bears JFC.

24-year-old Lachlan coached Caulfield’s U12 Grizzlies this season and preached values of effort, care and respect. Despite being in hospital the night before a match, Lachlan showed up and coached his side the very next day! This embodies the ‘Total Football’ ethos he has implemented at the Bears. Lachlan has shown himself to be a wonderful role model on and off the field.

Monash Leader of the Year: Georgia Smith – St Paul’s McKinnon.

Georgia was chosen by Monash University as our Leader of the Year after her contribution to the U18s Girls team, in addition to the broader St Paul’s community.

Match Day Behaviour Award: Port Melbourne Colts JFC.

In an initiative to stamp out anti-social behaviour, umpires are asked to rate players, officials and supporters after each game. Throughout the entire season, Port Melbourne received not one single poor rating, making them more than worthy winners.

Pepper Money Club Administrator of the Year: Bruce Plant – South Melbourne Districts.

Bruce is an integral part of the South Melbourne Districts Junior Football Club and has taken up the Presidency after numerous roles across the club. He has overseen the development of the Bloods Academy – a new player pathway program and worked with Albert Park College to set up a football academy. Bruce is constantly around the club supervising training and ensuring everything fires on all cylinders.

Volunteer of the Year: Simon Forer – St Paul’s McKinnon JFC.

Simon has been a dedicated servant to the St Paul’s community for a decade. Simon is never afraid to help when required and has helped bring together both St Paul’s and Highett when their U15 side merged together last year. Simon makes everyone at the club feel valued and welcome irrespective of who they are.
