2018 SMJFL Volunteer of the Year has a ‘heart of gold’
Jason Clifton of Bentleigh JFC was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Presentation Night held on Wednesday 5 September, 2018.
In a strong field of nominees, all put forward for their tireless and often thankless effort in Season 2018.
SMJFL Volunteer of the Year Finalists
- Tom Long – Mordialloc-Braeside JFC
- Fiona Froelich – Waverley Park Hawks JFC
- Jason Clifton – Bentleigh JFC – winner
Jason has been a stalwart supporter and volunteer of the club and is always on hand to get through the more ‘mediocre’ tasks that need to be done. Whether it’s the cooking of the the BBQ or being a Runner for a variety of teams, he does so without complaint or reward.
Described as a ‘salt of the earth volunteer’ who just gets things done.
He wears a number of hats such as facility and ground manager, umpire, assistant coach as well as helping with Auskick.
It’s without his hard work that Bentleigh JFC would struggle to have the fantastic reputation it does today.
Jason was said to be ‘setting the bar’ when it comes to volunteering.
He is described by the club as ‘Mr Fix It’, Jason was nominated for ‘doing the hard yards’ when no one else thinks to. Having tough conversations with dog walkers, creative car parkers, his worth to the club is priceless.
In the words of President Paul Jemmeson, “He might not shine like a diamond, but he has a heart of gold.”
Well done, Jason – well deserved.
