2017 In Review – Highett FC

Our club by club review of 2017 South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) season continues with Highett next under the microscope.

  • Participation 
  • Nine teams fielded in total across age-groups from Under 9’s to Under 16’s
  • Two girls teams fielded in Under 14’s and Under 16’s
  • Over 130 kids participated in Auskick, set to feed into the next generation of junior teams
  • On The Field
  • Two Premierships with the Under 12 and Under 15 Boys teams successful
  • Finals appearances for Under 14 and Under 16 Boys teams
  • Several place-getters in the SMJFL’s League Best & Fairest awards, with Will Stafford runner-up in the Under 15’s, Ethan MacBeth runner-up in Under 12’s and third-place finishes for Connor Cooke and Lachy Stevens in Under 14’s and Under 13’s respectively
  • Two representatives of the club in the SMJFL’s Interleague program in Jake Bowey and Will Stafford
  • Hosted the Under 10’s Lightning Carnival and SMJFL semi-finals

  • Club secured grants in 2017 for a new electronic scoreboard, a defibrillator on Oval 2 and re-development of the clubrooms
  • Other Highlights/Achievements 
  • Brett (Club President) and Dee Bowey acknowledged by the club for their tireless work and hours they’ve invested
  • The successful transition of new office bearers onto the committee over the past two seasons
  • Plans to further strengthen the ties with Highett FC seniors in 2018 with all players set to take to the field in the same uniform
