2017 In Review – Bentleigh JFC

Our club by club review of 2017 South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) season continues with Bentleigh next under the microscope.

  • Participation 
  • 350 registered players in total
  • Growth across all age-groups in 2017, with 17 teams fielded in total and that number forecasted to grow in 2018
  • Four girls teams fielded with six to seven teams in the pipeline in 2018
  • Over 240 participants in Auskick, including over 50 girls
  • On The Field
  • Three teams in Grand Finals – Under 16 Girls, Under 15 Boys and Under 14 Girls
  • Two teams successful in winning premierships – Under 16 and Under 14 Girls
  • Three further teams progressing to semi-finals
  • Several winners of SMJFL League Best & Fairest awards including Andrew Langworthy (Under 11 Div 1), Thomas Dowsing (Under 12 Div 1), Mark Banducci (Under 13 Div 2) and Gabrielle Goldab (Under 14 Girls Div 2), while Connor Brown (Under 14 Div 2) placed in the top three for the second year in a row

  • Off The Field
  • Voted Auskick Centre of the Year for the Inner Southern region
  • Adrian McKenzie a finalist in the SMJFL Junior Coach of the Year award
  • Funding secured for a new LED scoreboard for Oval 1, to be constructed by the start of season 2018
  • Continued work with Glen Eira Council on the renovation of King George Pavilion
